Head of Engineering – Electrification Director level role to head up a new and innovative business unit; taking ownership of the technical direction and commercial strategy in order to drive commercial success for market leading engineering company. You will be an Entrepreneurial and Innovative Business Leader with experience of operating globally. Ability to determine both the technical vision and set the commercial strategy. As well as possessing the drive to lead, motivate, and inspire a team in a new and exciting economy. The Company World leader in the technical development and design of electro-mechanical drive systems across the automotive, aerospace, energy and industrial sectors. Due to an increased demand for energy efficiency, drivetrains need to be more reliable, faster and designed with better accuracy. These systems need to be tightly controlled, power dense and efficient. They deliver industry leading integrated electric drives which enable: weight reduction, reduced cost, less volume and higher efficiency. Projects are closely aligned with the needs of industry and you will get to see new technology implemented in real life in order to engineer a better world. Complete design and analysis of electro-mechanical systems, including electrical machine design and analysis, electromechanical system integration and control for leading OEMs and suppliers worldwide. Collaborating on R&D projects with universities, businesses and government, operating across 12 international offices. The role: Entrepreneurial and innovative business leader with vision and the ability to set commercial strategy. Extremely flexible and resourceful in managing change and developing new markets. This is a wide ranging strategic role, with a focus on growing the business – leveraging exceptional technical expertise, industry leading simulation software, a global customer base and brand reputation to deliver large turn-key and innovative projects. Main Responsibilities • Technology Leader for design, development and delivery of innovative world class electro-mechanical drive solutions. • Use your technical vision and commercial strategy to drive the business forward. • Devise a technical roadmap for Electro-mechanical consultancy and software, providing a competitive edge predominately with e-drive technology across Automotive, Aerospace and Energy sectors. • Deliver and manage design IP for electro-mechanical systems, including - drive and power systems, controls, electrical systems, electric motors, and gearboxes. • Expand solutions on offer and leverage them • Cross-functional Management, including: ? Technical: Design Engineers ? Projects ? Commercial (Business Development, Key Accounts, P&L) • See the bigger picture, as well as the finer details, as this role encompasses high level strategic direction, as well as project - specific challenges. • Develop a global business model, strategic partnerships and joint ventures. • Liaise at all levels, including peers, clients, suppliers and the senior team. Skills & Experience Required • Mechanical or electrical engineering background. • MEng (2:1 or higher) in Mechanical / Electrical engineering or other relevant discipline. • Design of electro-mechanical systems: Drive & power systems, controls, electrical systems, electric motors and/ or gearboxes. • Demonstrate global, multi-disciplined project team management experience. • Ability to understand (and apply) the differences that unique global cultures bring to requirements. • Possess the technical vision and commercial acumen to leverage business growth opportunities. • Good team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • Understanding of client requirements and ability to explain complex technical material. • Technical Manager • Highly driven and self-motivated, with an ability to deliver results within tight deadlines. Preferable • 8+ years in a technology environment, ideally from combined product and service business • Further Degree /Professional qualification • Experience of working in Asia (ideally China or India) • Business Growth: Business Development, New Product Introduction, Account Management • Electric Vehicle or complex Electro-Mechanical Systems knowledge. NB: This is a director level role for experienced Engineering Managers with a relevant background in Electro-Mechanical (or similar) and with a track record of using projects for business growth.
